Gail has been beading for over 11 years and continues to learn new things nearly every day! She loves the help and direction of her beading family, both through weekly bead club meetings and UMBS. She has sold her jewelry at the Excelsior and Minnetonka Farmers markets, private home shows, church sales and the Carver Art Wander (which will resume the last weekend of September). Her beading obsession began with trying to utilize sea shells from a Florida vacation. Little did she know her obsession would continue to GROW! As our dear friend Adele said "Carpe Beadum"! Seize the Bead!

Jan Carlson is a retired project manager who took up beading to exercise the creative side of her brain (as opposed to her logical work) and started her business, Jan’s Strands, LLC. Her beading techniques include bead needlework and kumihimo, and is just starting to work in beadweaving and free-form peyote.
Jan uses multiple techniques to make earrings, bracelets and necklaces and uses patterns and ideas from various designers to inspire her work. She enjoys making a design her own by selecting pleasing color combinations. Jan is a board member of the Upper Midwest Bead Society. Her membership in this group has resulted in many new friends, learning new techniques and continual inspiration from the creations of other members. Jan volunteers and sells her jewelry at the Art Shoppe in the Midtown Global Market.

I needed to find a new profession in 2014 due to health reasons. So while I was out of work recovering from surgery I did a ton of research with an emphasis on looking for ways to use beer and soda cans that were going to waste. I fell in love with Tim Holtz and alcohol ink. So I watched every alcohol ink demo I could to get the basics and then started experimenting. It has taken my mom and I six years to perfect our process. We now combine her kumihimo talents with my mixed media skills to make jewelry, home decor, wedding accessories and much more. I like to say we are a couple of local girls trying to make the world a better place and add a little sparkle where we can.
