Rochelle Peterson -
The Rising Sun and Cherry Blossom Tour
In Person Meeting at the Edina Senior Center
Hello Everyone,
Our meeting this month is a special event "The Rising Sun Cherry Blossom Tour" with Rochelle Peterson, Shelley Lambert and Katherine Sry, and Special guests joining us from Japan from TOHO beads Yamanaka Iwao san and Takeuji Ayako san.
This will be a fun evening showing off all the fun places and beautiful scenery around Japan we visited, information and tour of gallery t in Tokyo and TOHO bead factory in Hiroshima. Learn how to make Peace cranes and connect together through TOHO Peace projects.
Are you familiar with the history of Aiko Precision Cylinder Beads? TOHO (which means "Eastern Treasure") Beads was founded in 1951 by Mr. Ichiji Yamanaka. As an amateur, Mr. Ichiji used many books on glass work for guidance, but suffered many failures. However, he didn't give up and devoted his life to making glass beads with the support of his beloved wife, Aiko, who also worked at the factory along side him. They both shared the same dream of making the world's finest beads. After much hard work and perseverance, they succeeded in developing many techniques, creating many shapes and colors, and even creating their own cutting machine.
TOHO produced the highest quality beads, which are named after Aiko as the most beautiful and delicate glass beads in the world. Today, Aiko beads are available in over 1,000 colors and has reached near perfection in consistency, shape, and size. We hope that you will use Aiko beads to create delightfully, smooth, and silky designs using various techniques like peyote stitch, looming, and weaving to name a few. We hope you have an unforgettable beading experience with Aiko beads!

Lisa Dooley- Set a Rivoli a Special Way
Let Bead Live is now at 11 am and runs to 1pm.
-Lisa will teach a new way to bezel Rivolis and will have a project to use the new way in. Lisa has a new web site that is not quite up yet. She has stated she will bring supplies to the Lets Bead Live. Below is a file with the pattern and needed supplies.

Lisa Krupp-Dooley is a self-taught bead weaving artist. Her beading career started in 2016, when she started creating and developing her own patterns and entered her first necklace design into the Potomac Design Challenge. Since then her design "Ava's Planet Beaded Bead" has been published in Maggie Thompson's Interweave eBook in 2017. In 2020 Beadwork magazine published her "Pearly Peaks Bracelet" design which can be found here: https://www.interweave.com/product/pearly-peaks-bracelet-pattern-download/ In 2020, Lisa’s “Pretty Paisley Necklace” made the cover of Beadwork’s first E-magazine issue of Quick + Easy which can be found here:
https://www.interweave.com/quick-easy-beadwork-2021/ She also had Beadsmith (a wholesale bead company) use her design, Sawtooth Bracelet, as an exclusive project for bead stores. Lisa was chosen to be one of several Featured Designers for the TOHO Challenge 2023 event, a beading contest that receives worldwide exposure.

Other Bead Events
Peace Chain
Help Rochelle create a mile long peace chain to take on her trip to Japan to the Toho/Aiko factories. The chain is being created to help celebrate A Day of peace "The Grand Connection" commemorative in Japan by August 6th 2026 . This is an important Date in Japanese Culture and one that carries Signiant meaning for both countries. The word bead has its roots meaning " to pray". As we sew the peace ring may much positive energy be released for peace in the world.
Since this poster was created the project has expanded to include other types of rings. The Daisy chain rings, peyote rings, even beaded loops sewn together for example. Toho beads must be the only beads used to make the rings and no stretchy cords can be used.
You may contact Rochelle to ask for Aikos to make the rings with At [email protected]
Watch Rochelle to learn the stitch on the link provided below:

No Two Alike (SnowFlakes) Museum of Beadwork
Join us in our annual Collaborative Community Project!
How it works: Each year we ask artists to contribute a beaded item of a specific theme. We install these collected items in an exhibition highlighting the power of people coming together for the purpose of community and creation. The exhibition is then on display for roughly a year. Once finished, the individual items are used in fundraising efforts for the Museum supporting the staff, development, and programs of this community-based institution. Click the link to learn more
