Our mission is to further the understanding and enjoyment of beads and beadwork
UMBS is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization open to anyone interested in beads

The Upper Midwest Bead Society meets the first Monday of the month with a few exceptions
for months with Holidays
Early Beading 5 PM - Board Meeting 5:30 PM - Meeting 7 PM
Non Member Fee $5 - can be applied to membership if you join that night
Membership $30/year
Most meetings held at the Textile Center - 3000 University Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414


Bad Weather Policy

Our meeting will be cancelled in the event of an ice storm or a six inch snowfall
on the day of the meeting.

February 6th
At the Textile Center

Leslie Granbeck will talk to us about
the history of felt, why fibers felt, and then show samples of items
felted using traditional
and contemporary methods.
We will then be able
to make a wet felted bead.



March 5th at the Textile Center

Sandi

The speaker is Sandi Graves,
owner of Stormcloud Trading Co.
725 Snelling Avenue North in St. Paul.
An Exploration of Stitches and Beads

We'll be looking at what stitches are most common, but how beaders need to push past single stitches and combine them to accomplish the designs that are most prevalent today. Also, We'll look at color and surface finishes and how those can affect or detract from a design.
She will bring examples.

Construction has started on University Ave for the Light Rail project.

The UMBS Board is currently working on the 2012 schedule
"Road Trip" meetings or other meeting locations are being discussed
to help avoid the congestion.
